Bad Fight Scene I Chose for the Project
The Bourne Supremacy
Why this fight scene is not working?
Over edit, cut too fast.
The camera is way too shaky for the audience to follow what's going on.
Camera crossing over 180 line without bringing the audience to the other side.
There's no focus in the cinematography.
Not visually telling a story. It's just two people fighting.
No visual contrast on the two characters. It is confusing who is who.
How it could be better?
The camera should be more stable.
The camera man should step back more to reduce the camera motion.
The cinematography should be telling the story. Ex. The camera should show the object in the scene the actors are going to use to attack before the action.
If the camera is going to the other side of the 180 line, the editing should not just cut to the other side. Make the audience see the camera moving, so the audience will not be confuse of the space.
Have some full body shots, not all medium shots. Therefore, the audience will have time to breath and see what's going on and where they are.
Concept Variations
Here are two story boards of different concept variations for the scene that I think would be interesting.
1. Chopsticks
2. Broke Back Mountain
